Runway shows are not the only must see events during NYFW. Fashion presentations make connecting and networking with the designer a less stressful task. Touching the garments, seeing and feeling the fabrication is also welcomed. This intimate setting was the perfect choice for brand Celestino Couture. This small venue evoked a feeling of exclusivity, as fashion connoisseurs gathered at the Melville studio. Designer Sergio “Celestino” Guadarrama brought us into his world of “perfectly crafted, eco-conscious, fashion forward” Garments. Sergio’s freelance work at the Metropolitan Opera where he developed expertise skills are present in his design esthetic. Upon viewing his collection I envisioned his pieces worn by “A” list actors on opening night at the theater or cinema. One of my favorites was the stand out all pink lace sequin ensemble. Every design showcased was placed next to the original sketch paired with matching accessories.
Succeeding viewing his collection I had the pleasure of speaking with Sergio. I was pleased to find out his couture gowns range from size 2-12. The wide range of sizes was evident as the mannequins draped in his couture designs varied from slim to full figured. This should be commended as most couture designers do not tailor to anything bigger than a sample size 2. Just this week two-time Grammy nominated artist Bebe Rexha had a difficult time finding a gown for her Grammy awards appearance. She is only a size 6-8, let that sink in. The brands sizing inclusivity is not the only differentiation. Learning the fabrics used by Celestino are recycled from other fashion houses really stood out to me. This highlighted the brands eco-conscious values. Sergio’s philanthropic work does not stop with all production of garments being created in the USA.
