Concept Korea was created to promote Korean designers to a new audience. The group show included talented designers LIE, IISE, and Leyii. Brother and sister designers Chung Lee and NaNa Lee, are children to renowned designers of the legendary fashion house Lie Sangbong. Far from new to the industry, the award winning designers presented notable looks on the spring studios runway. Pieces perfected with sculptural shapes and proportions, accentuated by the ever-present chunky sneaker silhouette. The LIE brand is a combination of textures accompanied by intricate details and tailoring.” LIE collection opened the show with the sound of wind chimes and water droplets, as an underwater view was displayed on the big screen. Inspired by the vast oceans, lush landscapes of Jeju Island, and the female divers indigenous to the island. Garment construction included transformed diving suits and included knitted lace with wave motifs. Secluded waterfalls, neon shades, and blue hues, LIE Spring Summer 2020 submerges us into an aquatic island wanderlust.
Translating to second
generation the brand IISE is a street
wear brand. Showcasing a metropolitan city backdrop and busy traffic scenes.
The menswear-line makes room for androgyne by reinventing traditional suites in
a contemporary way. While continuing the atleasure-trend, Korean-American
Designers Terrence and Kevin Kim examine large corporations and their involvement
in the countries progression.Closing the show was Leyii. Presenting a dainty lady like femininity established by designer Seunghlee Lee. A sweet
contrast from the previous ensembles, illuminating
a quiet yet powerful identity. Comprised of minimal structural lines and unique draping, this collection drew
inspiration from “the blossoming of love and the sensuality of blooming
flowers.” Established back in 2010 Concept Korea continues to unveil the
immeasurable talent that Korean designers have to offer to the New York high
fashion market, and beyond.
