This sustainable brand, Studio 189 has managed to outdo themselves this season. As if that was even possible! How can I best describe it? This collection was giving me the Lion King meets New York Fashion Week. It was an event of all events. Dancers and singers opened up the show prancing and dancing down the aisle to afro beats donned in tribal and afro centric wear. It was electrifying and had everyone amped to see what was in store next for our eyes to feast on.

Vibrant hues of primary colors such as reds, blues and greens were draped on the models in stripes, prints and patterns. What made the looks stand out were the mixing of a pattern with a print. This made for striking eye catching outfits with a colorful twist. Male and female models walked side by side in their coordinating dresses and suits for a great his and her look. Some new styles that were showcased this season were double breasted suits for women, ruffled tiered dress, a fringe wrap skirt and an off the shoulder caftan just to name a few. Tye dye and patchwork were some of the techniques used to achieve the final fabric looks.

“The collection which is entitled, Heritage is inspired by traditional patterns, symbols and techniques interwoven into cloth that communicates values, history and message to future generations”. Studio 189 is a sustainable brand that focuses on zero waste of materials by using recycled materials. They are also big on giving back to the community so much so that they have created job opportunites in Ghana where the clothing is manufactured and have employed local artisans there to help create the line.

Studio 189 is an impeccable emerging brand that has grown since its launch in 2013 and has recently received the CFDA Lexus Fashion Award. The founders Abrima Erwiah and Rosario Dawson are big on social change and are doing their part in providing sustainable products for the betterment of the world.
