Amidst the corona virus epidemic Shanghai and Bejing China fashion week have been postponed. With no new dates announced thus far. Attending The Council of Asian designers of America show this season felt even more impactful than usual. Eight outstanding Asian designers presented during the CADA fashion collective presentation. The carefully curated NYFW shows awakened diversity and innovation through fashion.
As industry professionals rushed into the discreet Soho location. Models showcased each designer’s collection with the expected runway walk. As the show commenced the presentation began. One look from each designer was displayed as the models stood in unison on separate white square platforms. One of my favorite designers from this event was Bingyao Cheng of @Bingyao_Studio. Her collection was inspired by the reflective structure of police uniforms, as well as what the future may have in store for humanity. Reflective fabric that seems regular to the basic eye, is transformed once a camera flash and light are in contact. The functional waterproof and windproof material Bingyao features in her designs are both inventive and wearable. Bingyao Cheng designs for all resilient and powerful feminist women, both present and future.
