Bibhu Mohapatra Spring/Summer 2020 New York Fashion Week

This was my first time attending a Bibhu Mohapatra’s runway show. I have been a fan of his work for a while now from seeing it worn by celebrities on the red carpet to one of my favorite Stylist, June Ambrose. This Spring/Summer 2020 creation was inspired by the book “Nothing Personal” written by James Baldwin and Richard Avedon, two artist who joined together to conduct a creative examination of American identity and individuality.

I would love to personally own every piece from this collection. I found this line to be very wearable and cohesive. The separation between the day and night items flowed effortlessly down the runway. There was something to satisfy everyone’s personal style. My favorite day look was the alligator leather jacket worn over a blue jumpsuit. It was casual yet glamorous at the same time. There was so much detail that was well thought out and infused these garments. From the tangerine and turq dress with crystal lattice embroidery under the black swan feather jacket, to the denim dress with the crystal embroidery. This was another great look that can be worn from desk to dinner.

Mohapatra’s fusion of colors like orange, blues and pinks lit up the runway. The puffy sleeves and cupcake like silhouettes were right on trend with what I have been seeing at New York Fashion Week as the new direction of fashion. He has created a masterpiece of luxurious items that was reminiscent of old Hollywood glamour meets modern day chic.
