Multiple runway shows captivated the fashion enthused audience at Chelsea piers on the first Friday of Fashion week. The group of cutting edge international designers were all participating in the Global Fashion Collectives NYFW show. Known to increase international media visibility, and open new market exposure.
First to bless the runway was Glaze Kohl. This brand pursues a timeless design that is classic, contemporary, and chic. Her experience handling garments from different fashion eras, at her vintage store in Osaka, Japan is evident. Picture strong shoulders, nipped waist lines, and a-line skirts indicative to the 1940’s. The line embodied old Hollywood glamour with a twist, including modern Japanese made fabrics.
Xunruo peaked my interest from start to finish. Twin sisters Chen Dan and Chen Ying collection infuses bold printing with traditional Chinese colors, such as the green of a lotus stem, amber, red, ochre. Polka-dots, animal drawings, bold colorful abstract art and sheer fabrics were all included in this one of a kind collection.
Woman’s occasion wear brand Jessica Chang Studio was last but certainly not least. Working under the mantra that “Mother Nature is our greatest designer; we strive to channel her talents into tangible, wearable things.” Starting with off white cream tones transitioning into deep navy blue to dark gray. Perfectly tailored trousers, silk and satin skirts and gowns flowed beautifully, as models strutted down the runway. Each romantic silhouette further cementing her elegant esthetic. I am ecstatic to see what the future holds for this extraordinary Taiwanese designer.
