Hakan Akkaya New York Fashion Week FW20

Hakan Akkaya has always brought an element of surprise to his collection each season.  This season his theme was The goddess “Justice” and the style of the Amish as well as of the anarchist punk movement.  I saw it as an ode to the hit series ‘The Handmaid’s Tales” with the bold headpieces and cape like styles.

The collection was bold and provocative and kept the traditional color story of black and white.  Though the color scheme was simplistic, the textures of fabrics were a mixture of patent leather, poplin and velvet to name a few. There was also intricate beadwork throughout some of the items in the collection.  The silhouettes were sleek and somewhat seductive as well as edgy.

The line is not for the ordinary woman or man.  If you are  looking for strong  stand out pieces that command the room, this is it!  I can see celebrities like Janelle Monae, Janet Jackson, and Rihanna donning selections from this designer.  Hakan Akkaya always seems to think outside of the box and I know the next season will be even more enterprising!
