Global Fashion Collective provides a platform for emerging and seasoned designer to display their talents on the runway collectively, while still giving each designer their own voice.  This Spring/Summer 2022 Collective almost got away from me, as my invite was sent to my spam folder! I’m happy to have caught it the day of the show and was still able to attend as they were amazing!

UNUSUAL – This younger designer, 19 to be exact is so in tuned with expression.  The theme “Wasted Youth” tells a story about communication and understanding.  The casual athletic attire consisted of prints and patterns with functional items packs that could hold everyday items.  He also created vest that were made up of straps which the packs could be attached to. All of the looks in the assortment could be mixed and matched back to each other.  Cross functionality is always a plus and gives you more ways to wear your clothing. The collection was made up of cotton and cotton blends which equate to easy wearing fabric. Comfort and functionality are key these days!

SAINT JESUS – Sporty yet chic, neutral tones and very wearable is what SAINT JESUS was giving! Her style aesthetic is monochromatic, and it works. Athleisure with a touch of glam is what this designer infused into her collection. Examples of this was by her pairing a sexy bra like top with flowy baggy joggers, as well as having a cropped tank and short set worn underneath a sheer sleeveless fitted maxi dress, They all were worn with sneakers to keep that minimalist flow.  I can see a lot of women of who are constantly of the go in these pieces.  They are stylish, yet  gives you the mobility you need to function in them. For New Yorkers those two things go hand in hand when it comes to fashion.

CARLTON JONES – Carlton Jones was the most seasoned designer within this collaboration of designers, and his talents showed it.  Jones has an extensive background in the world of fashion in roles such as, fashion director, image consultant and a wardrobe designer.  It was destined for him to create his own fabulous collection! I thoroughly enjoyed this show and was in awe of everything thing in his montage. He describes it as resort wear, but they can easily be worn on any city street any where.  He mixed neutrals and brights in silhouettes that all worked back to each other well.  Billowy dresses, loose fitting jumpsuit to cozy separates, he does it all well. He is the one to watch, he will be the next breakout designer!

SARAL ZENS –  This design duo grew up in different areas but managed to come together and create magic which was inspired by their Asian backgrounds.  The palette of their fashion house is mainly white which they say is based on tradition from their heritage and the coolness that the color offers. They had fun with the fashion giving us architectural looks and art all at the same time.   By keeping everything in black and white colorways, it didn’t make the garments overall structure hard to wear with its exaggerated shoulders and textured looks.

BLUE TAMBURIN – This collection took me in a time capsule to the Victorian style era.  The touches of lace and high neck styling on a few of the design were truly unique.  Denim was also used throughout in an untraditional yet edgy way such as for gowns.  The brand also gave us a few modern looks which incorporated lots of texture and patterns.  The collection is called “Touch” which they want to make uniqueness, expression, freedom, and boldness all harmonize with social formality.
